  2. PRIVATE FOR ALL PRACTICAL PURPOSES. We are providing 2 files,
  3. OS2LDR which is the NORMAL replacement file, and a SPECIAL
  4. OS2LDRD file than can capture some data and you can provide us
  5. with this data to assist us in correcting any problems that we
  6. have not forseen. Feed the data back to an IBM BBS or 76711,175
  7. on CompuServe please. We do feel that this is very close to final
  8. though.

  10. OS2LDR is the OS/2 kernel real mode initialization and loader. It
  11. resides in the root directory of the boot drive, and typically has
  12. the SHR (System, Hidden, Readonly) attributes set. These attributes
  13. have to be cleared (attrib -r -h -s c:\os2ldr) before the file can
  14. be replaced. Copy the new file over the old one (use the OS2LDR file)
  15. and then reset the attributes (attrib +r +h +s c:\os2ldr) and do a
  16. SHUTDOWN and REBOOT for it to take effect.

  18. The DEBUG version is built at the same code level (OS/2 2.0 ship
  19. level plus fixes), but the debug version has additional code to
  20. dump ASCII text out of the COM port at system boot time (9600 baud
  21. N-8-1). COM2 will be used if it can be found, otherwise COM1. This
  22. debug ASCII text output should be captured by an ASCII terminal
  23. emulator on the com port for analysis. The retail version is called
  24. OS2LDR on this diskette. The debug version is called OS2LDRD, and
  25. needs to be renamed to OS2LDR to be used. It is installed just like
  26. the normal version, but you do the rename on the copy over the old
  27. version.
